Urge to clean...

I have had the urge lately to totally simplify and clean our home. I would say that I am a clean person. Jason would say that I like to "clutter" things up.

Whatever.

So, lately we've been de-cluttering and getting rid of things we don't use anymore, need anymore...etc. Part of it is just something we have been needing to do, but another part of it is because of some deep convictions we've both been having.

"Contentment opens our eyes to the blessings around us." A great point from Pastor Sean's sermon this week.

However, Thursday night I came home after a long worship practice and saw this....

Usually my counters look more like this....

And that's just one little part....He stripped my whole kitchen. I noticed it immediately too. Yes, it looked clean, but it lacked all character and....ME! I told him I would give it a week.

And then I will put it back.
And rearrange his dresser drawers.
And his Ipod playlist.
And his shoes...and his toothbrush...

And the living room....again...

Jk.

Kinda.

1. I most certainly did NOT strip the whole kitchen. I moved the useless junk off of 1 counter. There are 4 others that remain perfectly cluttered.

2. The picture of "how it usually looks" is not NEARLY how it usually looks. There's usually tons more stuff... cleaning supplies, knick-knacks, candle holders, large wicker baskets, spray bottles, two to four bottles of soaps, each one designated for a specific purpose (hands, dishes, grease) but totally worthless on all other purposes.

3. This picture does not show the whole effect, it shows the coffee maker and that is is. The kitchen looks good. It is, if I may be so bold, exquisite in its simplicity.

4. As an experiment and illustration of the differences between the missus and myself, I asked her to identify a single flat surface in the entire living room that had fewer than THREE "decorative" items on it. Just one surface, no matter how small or hidden. She couldn't do it.

Just know this, my priceless lovely clutter-bomb whom I love and adore with all my clutter free heart and soul, you have thrown down the gauntlet. Game on. Let's do this!!!

Jason, I know exactly how you feel. It's been so nice as we prepare to move to throw away "stuff". And most of the stuff she never will notice it is gone.......for good! :-) A lot less clutter when we get to our new place.

Thank you Dave. It seems like a gender issue. Male = simple & pure. Female = cluttered & well, you know.

We all clutter in our own way...for some it's counter tops and tables, others its shoes on the floor or sweet and low packets (lol) possibly leaving a towel on the floor after a shower. Whatever the clutter, know you are in good company, we ALL have some kind :)Have fun!!!
